Bastille was a royal fortress and prison. Revolutionaries who were against the monarchy mobbed Bastille and when the military governor of Bastille surrendered they took him into custody, seized his weapons and freed the prisoners. They tried to take him to Hotel de Ville, but the mob murdered him. The significance of the Storm of Bastille was for the revolutionaries to seize the monarchs ammunition and arms. Since the prison was used to hold people who didn’t agree with the monarchy, it represented the unfair trait that the monarchy was known for. This was the official beginning of the revolution.
The first act of violence that was made by revolutionaries to signify the start of the French Revolution. This event happened on July 14, 1789.
