Some roman demonstrators had sat on top of a tank as it as id drove by a burning building on December 22, in 1989. Nicolae Ceausescu was the ruler for romania for almost 21 years. Earning his reputation as a very brutal dictator. As the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries began to liberalize, Ceausescu maintained his hardline policies. his stunned expression remains one of the defining moments of the end of Communism in Eastern Europe.
