Description:
Due to the panic of 1873, as the recession continued, railroads announced wage cuts. After the first round of cuts, workers walked off the job and blocked the tracks. Eventually, 80,000 workers affected 2/3 of the nation's railways. The strikes were ended by military force, but after 100 died and millions of dollars' property damaged.
