jul 4, 1776 - Declaration of Independence
Description:
The Declaration of Independence was an event where the Americans decided to be no longer under British rule and to join the thirteen colonies as one whole country. The Continental Congress argued about the declaration in order to make some changes to it. After the changes were made, the congress finally approved of the declaration. The reason why people wanted independence from Britain was because the American colonists were paying taxes to Great Britain, even though they weren't officially represented in the Parliament. This made the colonists felt as if they weren't being treated like citizens of Great Britain (because they felt that they were part of Britain at the time).
