apr 18, 1942 - The Doolittle Raid
The Doolittle Raid was the first successful bombing raid over the islands of Japan and also boosted Americas morale. In addition, it also revealed a hole in the Japanese defences around the Pacific. To fix this, the Japanese would have to destroy the remnants of the US fleet in the Pacific, capture Midway Island, and isolate the Australians by capturing their northern neighbors; the Solomon Islands and New Guinea.
