sep 1, 1944 - Liberation of Rome
Around September of 1944, the Allied Powers invaded Italy and implemented a replacement government which joined the Allies. Later on, they tried to advance further up to the Italian peninsula stalled South of Rome but was slowed down significantly due to German troops there. They were halted for the rest of 1943 and into 1944 but finally fell on June 4th.
