oct 19, 1914 - The Ultimate Stalemate (1914-1918)
The battle of the western front all started with the Battle of the Marne and the Battle of the Ypres. With the use of trench warfare the troops of both the central powers and the allies were dug in for the long ride. Some of 8.3 million were wounded (from the uses of air raids, bombs, mustard gas, and guns) and another 3.2 million in total died. The stalemate was one of the longest in recorded history with sides gaining mere feet every year. This was seen as the new wave of warfare, to outlast your opponent with both resources and man power.
