Description:
The Declaration of Independence gave a clear goal to the patriots when fighting the war. It was written mostly by Thomas Jefferson but the other founding fathers contributed to it a bit as well. The Declaration explained why America would want independence from Britain. One of the most famous lines is as follows “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." The declaration of independence marked the Fourth of July as Americas greatest national holiday because of it's significance.
