Description:
Stalin introduced 5 year plans because he thought it would help stabilize and defend the Soviet Union. With the 5 year plans, it was easier to modernize factories and increase the number of overall things the Union could achieve. The actual plans were different economic goals based off of his socialist ideas. These orginial ideas are still used in some 5 year plans today.
