nov 8, 1942 - Beginning of Operation Torch
Operation Torch was an operation between the US and Great Britain to gain control of North Africa. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the operation in Morrocco and Algeria, and he eventually met up with British troops in Tunisia, uniting the Allies and forcing the enemies to surrender. This was a turning point in WW2 because it was one of the first highly successful efforts between the Allies in the war.
