jan 31, 1763 - End of Seven Year War
Description:
The Seven Years War was the first global war, fought in Europe, India, and America, and at sea. In North America, imperial rivals Britain and France struggled for control. With the start of King George III reign, he worked for an expedited end to the Seven Years’ War, taking a position that forced his influential war minister William Pitt the Elder to resign in 1761. Despite British military and naval victories, by 1760 the British were staggering under a huge national debt. The war minister, William Pitt, was driven out of office in 1761 by the new king, George III, and peace negotiations began. In the Treaty of Paris, France lost all claims to Canada and gave Louisiana to Spain, while Britain received Spanish Florida, Upper Canada, and various French holdings overseas.
