jan 6, 2575 BC - Old Kingdom

Description:

More of a continuation of the Early Dynastic Period rather than a whole new period. Pyramids peaked in this era, giving it it's nickname "Age of the pyramids".
------------------------------------------------------------------------
4th Dynasty:
2575-2465 BCE

Mostly known for it's enormous building projects. The first king of this Dynasty was Snofru, who had already begun building pyramids. He converted the Step-Pyramid into the pyramids we all know today. He also built the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid at Dashur, and most likely built the pyramid at Meidum.
~
The kings that came after him are as follows:
~
Kheops, from 2551-2528 BCE. The builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza. His son Djedefre took over and he was his longest living son.
~
Djedefre, from 2528-2518 BCE. He married his half sister to claim the throne.... his brother ended up being his successor.
~
Khefren, from 2518-2492 BCE. He ALSO married his half sister with whom he had a son!!!!!!! That's pretty much it about him.
~
Bakare, from 2492-2490 BCE. The pyramid at Zawyet el-Aryan may have been built for him.
~
Mykerinos, from 2490-2472 BCE. Son of Khefren, ALSO MARRIED HIS SISTER AND HAD A SON! (NOT EVEN HALF) THATS IT.
~
Shepseskaf, from 2472-2467 BCE.
HE DIDNT MARRY HIS SISTER AND ALSO HE WAS MYKERINOS' SON OKAY. ALSO HE WAS THE LAST KING OF THE 4TH DYNASTY.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
5th Dynasty:
2465- 2323 BCE
~
Compared to the previous Dynasties, this one is one of the more well known well ones. Userkaf was the first king of the 5th Dynasty.

The King's that ruled are as followed:
~
Sahure, from 2458-2446. Most likely the son of Userkaf, and after his father built the Solar Temple at Abusir, he chose Abusir as the location for his funerary monument.
~
Neferirkare, from 2446-2426. The second son of Khentkaus I to have ruled Egypt. His mother was Khentkaus I, and his wife was Khentkaus II, who was probably his sister. Ugh Egypt suuucks.
~
Shepseskare, from 2426-2419. Next to nothing is known about him except that he reigned between Neferirkare and Neferefre. He probably married his sister.
~
Neferefre, First of Neferirkare's sons to rise to the throne. Nothing else is known about him.
~
Niuserre, came to the throne after his brother died, he built a Solar Temple near Abusir, and was buried near his father and brother. His wife wasn't his sister, it was Reput-Nebu.
~
Menkauhor from 2392-2388. Different sources say he reigned anywhere from 8-10 years. Little is known about him.
~
Djedkare, from 2388-2356. He built a pyramid complex at Saqqara South, the first king since Shepseskaf to have done so.
~
Unas, from 2356-2323. He was the first king to have the interior of his tomb inscribed with religious texts now known as the Pyramid Texts.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
6th Dynasty:
2323-2150 BCE
~
The last Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, not much more is known except for the Kings.
~
Teti (2323-2291) First king of the 6th Dynasty, little else is known about him except two of his children rose to power.
~
Userkare from 2291-2289. The first of Teti's sons to come to power. He probably murdered his dad.
~
Pepi I from 2289-2255. Probably the second son of the founder of the dynasty, may have also tried to kill his dad
~
Merenre I 2255-2246. Son of Pepi I, continued his father’s military activities in Nubia as well as the policy of consolidation of royal power. His mom was Ankhenespepi II and his siste- I mean wife was Ankhenespepi I.
~
Pepi II 2246-2152. The longest reigning king of Ancient Egypt. Also, he didn't JUST marry his sister, no. He married 4 of his sisters,Neith, Iput II, Ankhenespepi III, Ankhenespepi IV, and his... wait for it... his daughter Udjebten. Oh hey also he ruled for like 80 years.
~
Merenre II 2152-2150. Son of Pepi II, reigned briefly at the end of the 6th Dynasty.
