may 4, 1886 - Haymarket Riot
Description:
The Haymarket Riot was a labor protest rally near Chicago’s Haymarket Square which turned into a riot after a bomb was thrown at police, killing at least eight people. Eight radical labor activists were convicted in connection with the bombing. This was significant because the Haymarket Riot was viewed a setback for the organized labor movement in America, which was fighting for such rights as the eight-hour workday. The Haymarket Riot relates to Andrew Carnegie, who practiced long-hours and low-wages for his workers, which is what motivated McCormick Reaper Works workers during the Haymarket Riot.
