jun 6, 1944 - D-Day
D-Day was the Allied invasion of Normandy, Omaha, and other French beaches. Nicknamed Operation: Overlord, the invasion commenced on June 5th, 1944, opening up the allied campaign to liberate Europa from German occupation. Over 34,000 American men died, leaving it the deadliest battle in the entire western front. People think it commenced on June 6th, but that was just when the main force arrived from Britannia. At night, on June 5th, American planes dropped paratroopers behind German lines, starting the invasion the next day.
