Description:
Buddhist protesters were suppressed and Diem did little to reduce tensions. His government opened fire on a crowd of peaceful protesters, some of whom were children. This contributed to the U.S. organizing a coup to overthrow Diem. The U.S. backed the coup that executed Diem and his brother.
