Description:
Out of the hundreds of Dakota that were captured or surrendered during the war 303 men were challenged in a military court accused of murder and raping of civilians. President Lincoln sentences 39 prisoners to hanging but released one right before the leftover 38 are hung. The 38 hanging at Mankato is the greatest mass hanging ever in Minnesota.
