jan 13, 1868 - 14th Amendment Ratified
After slaves were freed, and slavery was abolished, everything seemed fine. But, many southern states made it hard for former slaves to live by limiting them on what they were allowed to do. For example, they could not do things such as own land, work, or vote. The 14th amendment changed this all and said that all American citzens have the equal rights. This was imprtant to the Reconstruction because it made African Americans become equal and the country was brought a little more back together.
