may 4, 1886 - Haymarket Riot
Description:
The Haymarket Riot took place in Chicago during an already-ongoing labor strike. At some point, a bomb was detonated and policemen began to attack. Eight men were arrested, although there was a lack of evidence against them, and they were titled 'anarchists'. The Haymarket Riot is significant because it revealed the ongoing tension between employers and employees due to the poor conditions in the workplace. The Haymarket Riot was another event which contributed to the labor movement and revealed that labor strikes were not specific to one state, but rather expanded throughout the entire country.
