Description:
The Sport Canada Policy on Women in Sport was updated in 2009. It replaced the one published in 1986. It was updated because the landscape for Canadian sport had changed considerably. The new policy states; Many human rights cases have established the entitlement of women and girls to participate in sport. This then prompting improved access to sport programs. There are now more competitive opportunities for women in a wider variety of sports, including more at the highest levels. This is important in Canadian society because as Canadians we are lucky to have a sense of gender equality. Although it is not perfect it is still better than some. Gender equality has been a constant issue in our society and policices like these have helped us develop.
