jan 1, 500 BC - Sage Agastya writes first known Tamil grammar. Tolkappiyar writes Tolkappiyam Purananuru, also on grammar, stating that he is recording thoughts on poetry, pointing to high development of Tamil language prior to his day. He gives rules for absorbing Sanskrit words into Tamil. Some refer to worship of Vishnu, Indra, Murugan and Supreme Siva.
