Description:
President Andrew Johnson was almost impeached for breaking the recently imposed Tenure of Office Act which required the Senate to approve removal of government officials. Although he was not officially impeached (1 vote shy) he lost all his power and finished his term quietly. Some senators were concerned about setting a precendent of impeaching Presidents who disagreed with Congress.
