The Korean War lead to an increase in military spending; it became half of federal budget. A new alliance was formed called the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO). It was a defensive alliance that aimed at preventing the spread of communism. It included: Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, France, Britain, and the United States.
