In the morning, Dakota soldiers start their fight from the edges inward. The defenders burn anything that the Dakota are using as coverage or to hide behind. After a few hours of battle, the Defenders barrelled into the Dakota but at sunset they retreated. More than a third of the townspeople fell, including 32 dead, and more than 60 left wounded.
