dec 26, 1862 - Execution of Dakota People
Description:
303 Dakota men are convicted of raping and murdering innocent civilians. The Missionary Henry Whipple urges President Lincoln to review the convictions. He does and in doing so shortens the list to only 39 names. They are to die by noose. One person is pardoned so this list is shortened to 38. Those 38 men were hung in mankato on December 26 1862. This currently takes the spot for the largest mass execution in US history.
