aug 23, 1862 - Second Strike on New Ulm
Description:
In the morning of August 23, Dakota soldiers surrounded New Ulm. The Dakota would fire at the townsfolk from windows and doorways. Little Crow and his men set fire to buildings that were near the river. The smoke makes people panic and get confused. After hours of fighting, the defenders made a charge and set fire to the houses the Dakota were using as cover. At sunset the Dakota started to retreat. More than a third of the town was in ruins.
