dec 3, 1960 - National Liberation Front
Description:
The formation of the National Liberation Front was imposed by the North Vietnamese but located in South Vietnam. Essentially, the NLF, later called the Viet Cong by the United States, was used to overthrow the government in South Vietnam to begin the reunification of Vietnam under the North Vietnamese. The importance of this creation was that the US understood the South Vietnamese would need more support in order to fend of the internal threats. Kennedy actually begins sending in troops for secret operations against the Viet Cong in 1961.
