The Governor Alexander Ramsey, said that, “The Sioux Indians of Minnesota must be exterminated or driven forever beyond the borders of the state.” So about 1,600 Dakota children, women, and elderly men, were marched to Fort Snelling. When they were traveling, a group of angry settlers attacked them.
