12h 26min, jul 10, 1943 y - Battle of Italy

Description:

On July 10, 1943, allied troops, especially British and Americans invaded the Kingdom of Italy, which was one of the main Axis powers. The invasion began on the island of Sicily (Operation Husky), which the Allies occupied for more than a month. Due to the invasion, Mussolini is arrested by the same king of Italy ending with Fascist Italy. Then, the allies enter the Italic peninsula through the Strait of Messina, advancing towards the north without much resistance. The new Italian government, commanded by Badoglio, signs the surrender on September 8 and tries to hide this from Germany, so that Hitler would not suspect the betrayal of his ally.

On September 9, another Allied landing takes place in Salerno and they are imposed on the territory. However, Hitler learns of the occupation in Italy and orders to invade that country, establishing in the north the Italian Social Republic, dominated by Mussolini and in the south the Southern Kingdom, which has Allied dominion. The allies and the Germans began to fight in Italy for the dominance of it. Germany manages to make a line of defense known as the Gustav Line with which it plans to prevent the entry of allies into northern Italy. A series of bloody battles known as the Battle of Montecassino will be waged, in which the allies finally enter Rome, free Italy from fascism and the Italian partisans execute Mussolini.
