Description:
The French economy wasn't in very good shape. The treasury had been emptied from many years of war and the entire country of France was out of money. Louis XVI tried to raise taxes in order to raise money but the aristocrats blocked this plan. Louis XVI called a meeting of the Estates General to address the problem.
