Description:
Designed to break up tribal organizations which Americans felt kept them from becoming "civilized" and law-abiding citizens. It divided the tribal lands into 160 acre plots. The U.S. granted citizenship to those who stayed on the land for 25 years and adopted the habits of a civilized life.
