Description:
Cornelis Drebbel, a Dutch physician, built the first submarine. He takes several trips in the Thames River going as deep as 12 to 15 feet. The boat was made of wood, iron and covered with leather. The 12 oarsmen row with oars seated six on each side.
This event was significant because it set a foundation for all future submarines, leading to further scientific discovery.
