22h 51min, dec 31, 1856 y - Dredd Scott Decision
Description:
A slave named Dredd Scott was taken to multiple free states in the North with his owner. When they returned, the slave sued the owner for freedom by saying that he was free because he lived in free states. The court declared that Scott could not sue because he was not a citizen because he was a slave. This further drove the North and South apart in their views on slavery.
