stated that cells cannot spontaneously generate and proved his theory with an experiment that involved broth in an S-shaped flask and in a normal flask.
The broth was boiled to kill the germs, the two flasks were then left to sit at room temperature in contact with air, it was noticed that the normal flask had become cloudy and stated that if spontaneous generation did exist the other flask would have become cloudy and germs in the air were able to fall unobstructed into the normal flask, while the germs in the 's' shaped flask were trapped in the neck of the flask.
