Description:
Abraham Lincoln, Republican candidate, won the election while campaigning the slogan, "Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men." This became the first time that the President and the majority of both houses were against extending slavery. This lead the southern states to secede with South Carolina being the first to declare secession.
