Description:
King of Germany, on good terms with the Pope and Bernard.
HRE was in a state of turmoil so Bernard made Conrad's rivals take the cross eg Conrad of Zahringen. Conrad III felt safe to crusade.
Took the cross due to Bernard's preaching.
Took around 30,000 men.
Led a poorly disciplined army. Conrad and new Byz emperor Conrad did not get on. Conrad pitched camp and it flooded, devastating his army - continued to Anatolia alone.
Harrassment from Seljuks so turned back to Nicaea. Conrad was injured. Conrad and Louis got on in Nicaea and relationship with Manuel improved.
