Early in the 1900's Lenin was exiled for his Marxist ideas. He had tensions with others in his group, those who were called the Mensheviks. He was eventually exiled again, but returned in 1917 when the Czar was overthrown. He gained power in 1917 leading the Bolsheviks, and ruled for 5 years after.
