12h 47min, aug 17, 1096 y - Peasant's Crusade - disaster
Description:
Led by Peter the Hermit. People believed he was a visionary who would take them to Jerusalem. Arrived outside Constantinople 1096. Caused havoc - looting and ill-disciplined. Alexios provided supplies but the looting carried on so he shipped them across the Bosporus placing them in danger near Nicaea. Some attacked a fort at Xerigordos and they were besieged by Nicaea forces. Turks broke in and slaughtered them. The rest of the Peasants attacked for revenge but failed. Only Peter and a few others survived, escaping to Constantinople to wait for the main crusading parties.
