Description:

Elvin Ray Jones was a Post Bop ear drummer. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1949. After he came stateside, he moved to New York in 1955 where he worked as a sideman for Charles Mingus, Teddy Charles, Bud Powell, and Miles Davis. He was known for playing wth the John Coltrane quartet from 1960 to 1966. He would be introduced to the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995.
