Description:
Allied forces had managed to push the Japanese back to their main islands, but then faced the challenge of how to end the war. Instead of invading Japan, the U.S. decided to give the Japanese government an ultimatum; surrender or we will destroy Hiroshima, a major Japanese city. The Japanese government believed such a thing impossible, and so the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb, which used nuclear reactions to create an explosion. The city was leveled with thousands of people dying, both from the explosion and radiation poisoning. However, the Japanese refused to surrender, and 3 days later another Atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing 35,000 people. Finally, the Japanese surrendered, ending the Second Great War.
