dec 26, 1825 - Decembrist Revolt

Description:

The Decembrists Revolt was a failed overthrow of government that brought a whole new change to Russia. Alexander I was inheritor of throne in Russia and at the time during his rule in 1812, Napoleon invaded and led Alexander to joining the conservative powers in the Congress of Vienna. When Alexander I died in 1825, a group of army officers led an uprising that was known as the Decembrist Revolts. This was because citizens of Russia had been under the rule of a czar for centuries. Learning from Napoleon, the Decembrists demanded for a constitution and other reforms. However, at the time, Nicholas I, the new czar of Russia, suppressed all the Decembrists. Nicholas I sent out police spies to find critics and revolutionaries in Russia and exile them to Siberia or put them in mental hospitals. To strengthen his regime, Nicholas I embraced the three pillars of Russian absolutism, symbolized in the motto “Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationalism.”
