apr 9, 1864 - Robert E. Lee Surrenders
Description:
On April 9, 1865 General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union after realizing there was no way to win. Both generals decided to meet at the Appomattox Court House to make a mutual agreement which ended with one of the bloodiest battles to conclude the war. A little bit after four o’clock General Grant and Lee shook hands to declare the surrender official. Both still showing respect to each other took off their hats in respect while Lee went back to his people to break the bad news.
