Despite its location deep within Nyrond, Rel Mord is heavily defended and maintains the appearance of a huge fortress. Originally armored to protect itself against Nyrond's conquered states (the County of Urnst and the Theocracy of the Pale), the city watch now keeps its eyes toward the evil nations of the east.

A base date of 576 CY, when WG8 Fate of Istus takes place, was modified by 'In the two centuries since it was built' to arrive at the date of c. 376.
