Mrs. Patton was also my teacher for second grade, which I loved. Chandra wasn’t in my class anymore, but I still felt safe and comfortable because of Mrs. Patton and I was able to make new friends quickly. Now that I loved school I was exceeding academically. Towards the end of the year my dad’s dad died. I didn’t know him well, but I remember a huge positive shift in my dad. He also wasn’t close with his dad, and after he died, my dad started making our family an even bigger priority than he had over the last year. Reflecting now, I think he realized you only have one life to live and only a certain amount of time to be close with your kids. During this year I felt safer than ever before, I could trust my dad which made my home life better, my teacher was supportive, and I had friends.
