Description:

As games got more advanced and there were more and more pixels allowed on the screen at once a ton of different consoles started to appear to jump onto the band wagon of this successful genre of products and each one had some unique feature going for them in some way and this was also the time when companies were trying to experiment even further into what games could be, for consoles came:

FW Towns Marty
3DO interactive
Atari Jaguar
Saturn
PS
N64

This was around the time when game were coming from 2D to 3D and big hit mascots jumped at the opportunity to be staring 3D games, such as one of the most commonly known Super Mario 64 which was Mario's first jump to 3D and it got a lot of praise, and on sonic's case it was received okay.

This also brought another rival for Nintendo which the PlayStation, which used CD technology to run the games.

Another thing was the hand held which had gained a following of its own, this included:

Nomad
Virtual Boy
Game Boy
Game Boy Colour
Neo Geo
Game.com

these were a strange bunch of handhelds from the exception of the newer game boy and game boy colour which improved the older version of itself and was also bringing one of the most successful series to light which is pokemon, on the other hand everything else didnt last and was a one time thing, the virtual Boy tried to go beyond anything anyone had ever seen and tried make a virtual reality before it was even a thing, sadly the concept was rushed and it was a huge failure.
