Following the demonstration, Tony and the group of US Army officials and soldiers present are ambushed by the Ten Rings
The Ten Rings are a middle-eastern terrorist group. The kidnap Tony Stark under orders from Obadiah Stane
Tony Stark is kidnapped and returned to one of the Ten Ring's operating centers (a cave). They tell Tony he must recreate the weapon he demonstarted or else him and Ho Yinsen, who was also captured, will die.
Instead of building the weapon, Tony Stark develops the Mark 1 Iron Man suit. Him and Ho Yinsen attempt to use the suit to escape the camp. Tony Stark does but Ho Yinsen does not.
Tony Stark's incredible display of ingenuity gets him on Nick Fury and SHIELD's radar.
