17h 8min, dec 6, 1865 y - 13th amendment ratified

Description:

The thirteenth amendment ended slavery in America. Its official texts stated, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” This was the largest impact of the civil war, and was also the main reason it started. This was not passed until 8 months after the civil war. Lincoln personally believed this was necessary in order to ensure slavery would not exist again. Sadly Lincoln did not live to see this amendment ratified.
