Description:
On this date general Robert E. Lee surrendered his confederate army to Union General Ulysses S. Grant in the town of Appomattox. The army of northern Virginia retreated westward through the Virginia country, the army was running out of food and supplies. People from the confederate army started to abandoned the army and go home. By April 8 the confederates were almost all surrounded. Then on April 9th Lee surrendered. This marked the end of the civil war and the single most bloody conflict in American history.
