The Missouri Compromise was a fight to be a free state or a slave state. So they came up with a compromise that said "admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state" to even the free and the slave states. So in 1854 the Missouri Compromise was repealed by the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
