Feb. 23rd, 1803
Description:
The Supreme Court case Marbury Vs. Madison was a landmark case that established the judicial review. In this case, Secretary of State James Madison refused to deliver a commission to a new Justice of the Peace, William Marbury. Marbury petitioned the court claiming that Madison must deliver his commission. This was the first case that something was declared unconstitutional, meaning that the court can overrule an executive decision if it is found "unconstitutional" by the court.
