Description:
The 13th Amendment to the U.S. constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude. Lincoln had believed that the Emancipation Proclamation was not enough to ensure slaves freed, and had suggested that an amendment be ratified to secure a free nation, and on account of his wishes, congress passed the 13th amendment 8 months after the end of the Civil War.
